Role Summary:
This post holder will work as Senior Occupational Therapist in this area alongside other team members to ensure quality, evidence based, equitable and timely service is provided to in patients’ under our Older Persons Medicine remit. The Older Persons Occupational Therapy service in St. Vincent’s also includes some clinic work, and both in and out- patients’ service in Caritas Day Hospital and Transitional Care Unit. The post holder will require key evidence based and best practice clinical assessment and onward intervention skills based on patient presentations into this service, this can include:
- Cognitive screening and interventions for various stages and types of cognitive impairment / cognitive decline
- Neurological interventions
- Understanding and working knowledge of dementia and delirium
- Education with patients and their carers surrounding cognitive impairment
- Education in the contributory factors to falls prevention or preventing further falls.
- Postural management, evaluation and prescription skills
- Low vision and its effects
- Home environment and evidence based measures in the home and local resources available to ensure patients in so far as possible remain at home if this is their goal.
The post holder will be split across off site Caritas campus and on site SVUH inpatients.
This post holder will lead on measures to monitor, track and introduce innovative ways to further develop existing services.
The current service delivery will be undergoing a service redesign and this post holder will be a key lead in this work.
Panel: A panel may be formed to fill upcoming permanent, temporary, part-time and whole-time vacancies over the next 6 months.
